How to set up a laptop screen

In order to ensure that working with a laptop does not cause discomfort and discomfort in the eyes of its owner, the screen settings should always be set correctly. This article will tell you how to optimize the screen settings "for yourself".

How to set laptop screen refresh rate

The refresh rate of the display is the value that characterizes the refresh rate displayed on the screen per unit time. Notebook settings that are in it "by default" are likely to be set to a lower frequency, often negatively affecting the user's vision. In order to change the refresh rate, it is recommended:

  1. Turn on the laptop and right-click on the free space on its desktop.
  2. Select "Properties" (or "Screen Settings", depending on the current OS).
  3. Go to "Advanced" or a similar item.
  4. Find the line "Screen refresh rate."
  5. Select the maximum frequency value.

Important! Many experts claim that the refresh rate below 70 hertz negatively affects the user's vision, causing discomfort in the work due to the flickering image.

Screen brightness adjustment

The screen brightness parameter is one of the most important for laptops, netbooks, tablet computers and other mobile equipment, because thanks to it you can not only make the image more pleasing to the eye, but also save some energy consumption of a laptop running on battery power. There are several ways to adjust the brightness of the display.

Firstly, you can adjust the brightness through the same settings window in which the refresh rate is configured. Secondly (and this method is more efficient), you can reduce or add brightness using special keys on the device’s keyboard.

Reference! Most manufacturers "bind" the brightness parameter to the F5 and F6 function keys. In order to change the brightness, it is necessary to press these keys simultaneously with the “Fn” button.

The keys responsible for changing the brightness are usually marked with images of the sun in a rectangle. On some systems, the brightness parameter can also be adjusted in the "Hardware and Sound" section, in the "Power" tab. Decreasing the brightness will not only make the "night" work for a laptop more comfortable, but also significantly save energy, especially if the device is constantly working in low-brightness mode.

Important!Contrary to popular belief, the brightness parameter that is not set high is the main reason for the negative impact on the user's eyesight, however, the user may experience discomfort from working with a bright image for a long time. That is why, for office work, experts recommend setting low brightness settings, and for video games and watching movies - high. In order not to spoil the vision, you just need to limit the time spent working behind the monitor and perform special exercises for the eyes.

How to adjust the screen contrast

In order to understand what the contrast parameter affects, it is necessary to turn to the very definition of this term. According to the full definition, contrast is the maximum ratio of image brightness levels. For Windows 7, it is adjusted as follows:

  1. You must open the control panel.
  2. Select "Screen".
  3. Click on "Calibrate colors."
  4. In the window that appears, follow the provided prompts, adjusting the contrast parameter.

A more contrasting image allows you to visually improve its detail, but it can slightly hurt your eyes.

Change the screen resolution on a laptop

Most modern laptops work at the "default" resolution indicator set by the manufacturer. If, for one reason or another, the resolution was “knocked down,” then you can see the correct parameters in the technical passport of the device. It is worth noting that changing the screen resolution from a parameter recommended by the manufacturer to a user parameter can adversely affect the overall image quality (for example, it can become squeezed laterally or vertically).

So, in order to change the resolution of the monitor, you need:

  1. Go to "Options" or "Personalization" by right-clicking on the free space on the desktop.
  2. Click on "Screen" or a similar tab.
  3. Select the required resolution from the list provided.
  4. Apply changed settings.

If all the previous settings are saved, the parameters have changed, but the user does not feel discomfort at work, he should try to conduct the so-called screen test. This test can be carried out even at home, and for its implementation you will need special desktop wallpapers, as well as special software (for example, Atrise Lutcurve).

After testing the screen and making sure that all of its settings are optimized for the user, you can continue to work on the laptop without fearing more problems with the displayed image and discomfort for vision.
