How to connect a bluetooth mouse to a laptop

The invention of wireless communications has enabled computer users to eliminate the need to use wires. There are more and more devices on sale that support this method of pairing, but sometimes there may be problems connecting them.

How to connect a bluetooth mouse to a laptop

Each wireless mouse is equipped with an adapter, which serves as a kind of intermediary between the USB input of the laptop and the Bluetooth module installed inside the mouse. There are two ways to connect to a laptop:

  • In the standard way - through the mouse adapter. This type of interaction involves the use of one of the USB inputs located on the laptop motherboard. You need to insert the adapter that comes with the mouse into this input. The software necessary for the wireless manipulator to work is installed automatically - the user only needs to wait until both devices are synchronized with each other and a message appears on the laptop’s display saying “the new device is ready for operation”.
  • Using a Bluetooth module installed inside the laptop. The vast majority of laptops (especially modern ones) are equipped with an installed Bluetooth module at the hardware level. If the mouse adapter was lost, or there is no desire to occupy the USB input, then this method will help establish a connection between the mouse and laptop. From the "Device Manager" (you can get into it by pressing Windows + R on the keyboard and entering devmgmt.msc in the window that appears) you need to start the Bluetooth module. A wireless icon will appear in the lower right corner of the screen. The mouse must be turned on, then proceed to this icon and click on it. In the drop-down list, select "Add device". It remains to follow the instructions appearing in new windows to connect the mouse. Further connection is made in the same way, but the synchronization procedure will be much shorter.

Why the mouse may not connect / the computer does not see the mouse

There are several reasons why the laptop will not perceive the mouse connected to it. The most popular of them:

  • Battery low. Wired mice work exactly as long as the laptop’s battery has a charge, or is plugged in. Remote mice use batteries for this, and if you do not replace them in time, the manipulator itself remind the owner of this, refusing to connect to the operating system.
  • The mouse is not turned on. Again, unlike wired mice, the wireless is equipped with an on and off button to save power. In the off state, the manipulator will not work.
  • Drivers did not install. This rarely happens, but there are users who report the impossibility of installing the necessary software equipment. In this case, you will have to install the drivers yourself. This is easy to do by going to the official website of the mouse manufacturer. All software designed for the operation of certain devices is supplied free of charge. You do not need to search for yourself - you can try to make the system look for drivers. You will need to go into the "Device Manager", find the connected mouse in the list with the error icon, and call up a drop-down menu with the subsequent selection of the driver update function.
  • Manufacturing defect. If the previous ways to solve the problem did not help, then you only need to use the guarantee and return the mouse back from where you brought it, with the requirement to replace the defective device.

Externally, the adapter for connecting a wireless mouse is a plastic plate with a USB output. The size of the plate varies depending on the model - it can reach the size of the SD drive, or be three times shorter than the output itself. Manufacturers often provide a hole with a valve in the mouse body where the adapter can be placed.

Reference! If there are problems with detecting the adapter after buying a mouse, you should carefully examine it - the transmitter is hidden somewhere inside.

A Bluetooth mouse, unlike a wired mouse, is not powered from the mains, and, accordingly, can be discharged. The manipulator is powered by a battery, access to which is provided through the opening of a valve in the lower part of the housing. It is advisable to replace the battery in time, otherwise the mouse will stop working.
