Why there is no sound in the headphones on the computer

If there is no sound in the headphones, do not rush them against the wall or run to the store for new ones. To get started, just check the sound level settings on the headphones themselves and in the playback device. It may well be that everything there is at zero. Everything is simple with headphones. Modern models have a special regulator on the wire or on one of the “ears”. Check that the wheel is turned up to the stop towards the thick end of the arrow.

Checking the volume of sound in headphones and on PC

  1. To check the sound settings you need to find in the lower right corner of the icon with the image of the speaker.
  2. If you double-click on it with the mouse, the panel with the volume control will open. At the bottom of this panel there is a "Mixer" button. Check if all controls are set to maximum.
  3. After the procedure, the sound will play at the level that you personally set.

PC audio error

It often happens that a computer thinks that there is sound, but in fact it does not. This is caused by the failure of system services. This can be fixed by running the Sound Troubleshoot wizard.

In addition, be sure to check another option, which is often forgotten. In the "Control Panel" run "Administration". In the window that opens, find the "Services" item.

Then you need among the entire list of services to find Windows Audio.

If you select this service with the mouse, you will be able to stop or restart it. Click restart. As a rule, after that the sound appears.

Need to update drivers

Often there is no sound because the drivers are faulty or they are simply outdated. For this reason, there may be extraneous noise or a complete lack of sound. In this situation, you can try to roll back the system to an earlier state, when the sound was still working normally. Or install more recent, compatible drivers, even if they are not native.

  1. You can do a little easier. It is enough to completely remove the device driver.
  2. Then in the control panel, open the "Device Manager" and click "Update Configuration". The operating system will try to automatically find the most suitable version of the driver.
  3. If the required driver is not found, then it should be installed manually. On the manufacturer's website, find the version you need and download. If your audio card is integrated into the motherboard, then look at the website of the manufacturer of this board.
  4. Be sure to comply with the capacity of the system. In order for the software to be installed from scratch rather than being updated, remove the audio card from the system in advance through the Device Manager.
  5. In case the existing driver is intended for an earlier version of the operating system, try installing it in compatibility mode.

Headphone Malfunction

If you determine that the sound source is working properly, it turns out that the problem lies in the headphones, the PC does not see them. To see this for sure, it is enough to connect another device to the computer (headphones or speakers) or connect the headphones themselves to another device.

All damage headphones, can be divided into three categories:

  • Breakage of the plug;
  • cable integrity failure;
  • speaker failure.

Repair the cable is quite simple. Faults of this type are rare and, at the same time, obvious. After all, as a rule, the cable is broken together with the protective sheath.

Although sometimes there are internal breaks, when the outer shell remains intact. To check this, turn on the headphones and methodically bend the cable until you catch at least some hint of sound.

Repairing the cable, we adhere to the technology:

  • Cut the cable in place of the gap;
  • we cut off the cut-off points from isolation;
  • we twist the veins and solder them;
  • We separate each channel from each other, we wind the junction with insulating tape, and on top of it we put on a heat shrink tubing and heat it.

If the cable itself is in good condition, then it is likely that the cable does not fit well on the plug. Old plug can be replaced with a new one, or it can be disassembled and strengthened. As described earlier, we cut the wire and strip the insulation. Solder the ends to the pins of the plug. Short plates are responsible for the channels, and long ones for the earth.

If the speakers are out of order, the speakers are left with one thing: buy new headphones. Why? Repair the speakers is almost impossible.
