The keyboard does not work after updating windows 10

Sometimes after updating the keyboard may stop working. This happens for several reasons.

Why does the keyboard not work after the update?

A fairly common problem is when the keyboard stops working after updating Windows 10. This malfunction can be caused by either a reset of the driver settings or improper functioning. Regardless of the nature of the problem, if the connected gadgets are functional, then you can fix the problem on your own.

How to fix the problem

There are several basic methods for resolving a problem.

  1. The easiest way to solve the problem is to turn off the device and then reconnect. After that, the system itself will begin the configuration and the device will be ready for operation. This method will help if the driver settings are lost due to the update. This method is also suitable for wireless devices.
  2. If the PC responds to button presses, you should check the device’s functionality before loading Windows. To do this, go to BIOS. If you managed to get into it, and the keyboard performs functions correctly, then the driver is faulty. You should download the latest version from the official site, or roll back the current one to the last working version. If the BIOS does not respond to button presses in any way, it means that the problem is in the controller and it will not work out on its own.
  3. If the device does not respond to pressing, but responds to movement with the mouse, then there are problems in the registry.

In order to fix the registry problem, you first need to turn on the on-screen keyboard. This is done in the menu "Options" - "Special Features" - "On-Screen Keyboard". Then enable this special feature.

The next step is to open the registry itself. To do this, open the command window with Win + R, and then enter the command "regedit" into the window that opens using the screen device, after which the registry window will open. In it you need to go to the following menu:

  1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control Class 4D36E96B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318
  2. In the last menu, find the UpperFitters item, click RMB, and then click "Change."
  3. After that, you need to enter the kbdclass value and then restart the computer.

Also, the keyboard may not work due to an anti-virus program, namely from Kaspersky. In order to fix the problem, you need to remove the antivirus, and then download and install the updated version.
