DIY swing hammock

For many people, a summer house is the best place to relax and it is difficult to imagine a country house without a hanging swing chair or hammock. In stores you can purchase these designs of various sizes and any shape. But you can save money and make garden furniture with your own hands.

How to make a do-it-yourself hammock swing

There are several varieties of hammock chairs:

  1. With a soft frame (on the principle of a hammock). The main difference is in size: this suspension chair is smaller in size, unlike a hammock, respectively, it takes up a little usable space.
  2. With a rigid plastic frame or structure made of rattan. These swings are lined with thick fabric.
  3. "A drop". In appearance, this design resembles a small house, it is often equipped with doors.
  4. Swing Cocoon. A feature of the modification is 80% closed space inside the hammock. This effect can be achieved through wicker walls - macramé.

What is required for this

To make a hanging hammock chair is very simple. First you need to prepare the tools and materials that are required to work:

  • scissors;
  • gloves
  • strong fabric;
  • roulette;
  • braid;
  • frame basis - hoops made of wood, metal, plastic or acrylic;
  • accessories (buckles and ring) for installing a hammock;
  • non-woven;
  • foam rubber;
  • threads from polyamide;
  • slings.

How to choose the right material

For the foundation, you can use various materials, among which there are natural and synthetic. But not everyone is suitable in each specific case, so you need to know all the advantages and disadvantages of each material. The most popular are as follows:

  1. Cotton is the most common material. It is lightweight, durable, pleasant to the touch, “breathes” and lends itself perfectly to washing. But in terms of service life, cotton is not a durable material, therefore, after a few years it requires replacement;
  2. A net is a uniformly woven bundles that are fixed on the sides with wooden beams holders. Usually the material for the manufacture is twine not less than 5 mm thick. The grid has a long service life, easy to maintain. But there are also disadvantages - it often rubs the skin, so you can stay on it for a long time only with additionally laying soft material;
  3. Burlap is a material made from yarn. As a rule, it is made from jute, hemp, and kenaf fibers. The material is characterized by good strength, ability to "breathe" and low cost. But lying on a burlap without bedding is uncomfortable, since it is rather prickly to the touch;
  4. Silk is an ideal material that has the required strength, vapor permeability and is resistant to wear. Silk is washable and dries quickly. There is only one drawback - high cost;
  5. Tarpaulin is a dense waterproof synthetic or natural material. It is based on hemp, flax or sesame fiber, which is treated with various impregnations. The tarpaulin is resistant to wear and fireproof, but rather heavy and has poor vapor permeability;
  6. Polyester is a versatile material that is durable, but at the same time quite light. Therefore, synthetic fabric is very popular among tourists, for whom any additional few kilograms in a backpack are a problem. But polyester is unstable to fire, so any spark can make a hole in the base. In addition, the material does not "breathe", it creates significant discomfort.

Ways to fix the structure

Most people do not attribute hammocks to a certain group of country furniture, since they can be made in any form. But still they belong to a separate class. As a rule, these swings are made in a classic form or in the form of a chair.

Attention! A characteristic feature of this type of furniture are 2 reference points located at a certain distance, this creates the principle of pendulum work.

Swing chairs can be of two types:

  1. Mobile - the product is fixed to the bar, which performs the function of the rack. This solution allows you to move the structure throughout the territory, and in winter to clean the house.
  2. Stationary - the hammock is attached to a fixed support (beam, tree).

Swing hammock yourself: step by step instructions

The assembly and installation of the simplest hammock-swing takes place in several stages:

  1. Open the fabric according to the required dimensions and make a frame for it. For this, along the long edges it is necessary to sew in the rope and bring its ends parallel. That is, on the product there will be 4 pieces of rope, which subsequently must be used for fasteners.
  2. Drill several holes in the bars along the entire length in increments of 7-12 cm.
  3. Pull the cord through the holes, then lock them in knots.
  4. Cut strips of 50 centimeters from the rope according to the number of holes on the boards.
  5. Fix the strips from the rope with one end to the beam and the other to the steel ring.
  6. Wrap the remains of the rope tightly on the supports and make along the edges of the loop, they will be required as a fixation of the structure.
  7. Secure the carabiner on both sides of the ring and loop. Swing hammock is ready.

A wicker or fabric hammock swing is a great option that can replace bulky and rather expensive garden furniture, while due to the mobility you can install this design anywhere in the garden.
