DIY garage ovens

Usually in a private garage in the winter it is very cold. It is expensive and inefficient to use electric heating appliances, so many car owners prefer to make stoves on their own, choosing the most suitable option for themselves.

What ovens can be made for a garage

For a garage, the following types of stoves are most often used:

  • wood stoves;
  • from two barrels;
  • long burning furnace;
  • unit at work;
  • brick version of the heater.

Each option has its own positive characteristics and cons. Therefore, for self-production, each owner chooses a more convenient and affordable device.

Wood stoves for garage heating

People who are not involved in plumbing consider the manufacture of a heating device for a garage to be laborious and complicated. In fact, some units are so simple that they can be assembled from materials that are available for almost every car owner.

Before starting the assembly of the structure, it is necessary not only to draw up a specific work plan and draw a diagram of the future furnace for the garage, but also to study all the pros and cons of the chosen option. Consider the most efficient units, and the process of their manufacture.

Vertical

These are the most common options for garage stoves, which can be made from materials:

  • pipes;
  • barrels;
  • gas bottle.

The design is compact and ergonomic, does not take up much space.

The build algorithm is as follows:

  • prepare a cylindrical part that is suitable for the parameters;
  • divide it into 2 halves, one large - for the furnace, the second small - an ash pan;
  • then in these elements square openings are arranged for the doors, which are made of cutting parts;
  • attach hinges to the doors;
  • in the place of the cylinder cut, a grid is arranged - a grate of steel rods that are welded to the upper part of the ash pan at a distance of no more than 2 cm from each other;
  • a hole for a chimney is cut out in the upper part of the furnace;
  • fix the pipe of the desired cross-section and length to remove carbon monoxide from the room.

The vertical potbelly stove is ready to use.

Horizontal

This is the second option for the location of the furnace part of the potbelly stove. The negative side of such an aggregate is its bulkiness, which is why they only construct the structure in large garage rooms. For manufacturing, you can use either a large cylinder or pipe, or sheet steel of a certain section.

Instructions for the manufacture of the furnace:

  1. Cutting the part into 2 parts is not necessary, the ash pan is made separately.
  2. On one side of the cylinder, drill holes that will serve as a blow and discharge of ash and firebox.
  3. Make a rectangular ash pan from sheet steel and weld it to the bottom of the structure.
  4. On one side of the product, cut a hole for the door.
  5. Weld the hinges.
  6. In the upper part, arrange a chimney from a pipe of a certain section, in a previously made hole.
  7. Weld the legs so that the structure stands flat and firmly on the floor.

The oven for the garage is ready, you can start kindling.

From two barrels

The design of two barrels was invented so that the walls of the potbelly stove do not overheat, as is the case in sheet metal furnaces.The heating unit is made in the following way:

  • 2 barrels of various diameters are selected, so that one can fit one into the other while maintaining a gap that is filled with sand or pebbles;
  • the doors for the chimney and ashpit are constructed in such a way that the contents of the inner space do not spill out, covering it with strips of sheet metal;
  • in the upper part they equip a chimney, with a pipe for the removal of combustion products.

IMPORTANT! This design will heat up much longer, but it will retain heat for a long period, which is important in the winter.

Do-it-yourself wood burning stoves for long periods

This design allows you to not add firewood for a long time - 15-20 hours. This is achieved by arranging moderate traction with the help of air. For this design, a barrel of 200 liters is used.

In the upper part of the structure, a chimney with a diameter of at least 150 mm is equipped. You should also equip a special hole for the air through which air will flow.

The next step is to mount the doors for the furnace and ash pan. The last step will be the arrangement of the cargo, for this you need:

  • make a circle of sheet metal of smaller diameter than the barrel itself;
  • several sections of the channel are welded to it;
  • in a circle equip a hole for a pipe with a cross section of 100 mm;
  • a square metal sheet is welded to the bottom of the barrel to give stability to the finished structure;
  • set the load in the barrel and cover with a pre-prepared lid with a hole for the chimney.

The finished long-burning furnace is installed on a foundation of concrete or brick.

Garage Ovens

This is a fairly effective design, which will be more difficult to build than a wood stove. The economic aspect of this furnace is obvious - every motorist has spent oil, in addition, it is not difficult to buy this fuel in auto repair shops, and it is inexpensive.

The main difference of this design is the arrangement of two compartments, interconnected by a pipe with holes drilled around the entire perimeter.
In the lower compartment, oil will burn, converting to gas, which, passing into the second half of the furnace, mixes with air during combustion, gives a lot of heat. In the first tank, which can be of any configuration, an adjustable blow is mounted to regulate the air supply.

Legs from a metal corner are welded to the bottom, which can withstand the entire structure. Further, a thick-walled tube with perforation is welded to the upper part of the first chamber into the initially prepared hole.

A second chamber is welded to the top of the pipe, in the form of a cylinder, in which a chimney is arranged. In this design, you can burn any liquid fuel that is not characterized by rapid ignition.

DIY brick oven for a garage

Sometimes a brick heating structure is installed in a large garage, despite the fact that the process of its installation is much more complicated than all the units described above. The advantage of this design is the fact that the unit heats up for a long time, but also cools down for a sufficiently long time.

The brick oven must be melted in advance, 1-2 before starting work in the garage. For the construction of this design, the necessary amount of fireclay and refractory bricks should be prepared.

ATTENTION! Brick oven has a sufficiently large specific gravity. Therefore, it is desirable to build a reliable foundation for the design.

The heating unit is built in 9 rows, at a level of 2-4, a blower and a firebox are laid out. The pipe is built of brick and led out through the ceiling and roof, it is important that the masonry is even, otherwise the chimney will quickly become clogged.

Any car owner will be able to build a stove in the garage if he competently approaches the arrangement of the structure and uses the tips presented above.
