What is a boiler

The boiler is considered a device that generates heat, as well as a device that allows heat to be released by burning fuel. All current devices are made the same in design: a body made of metal or cast iron, having a heat exchanger from the inside. The coolant (water, oil, mercury, air or water vapor), heated with a heat exchanger, enters the heating devices. So heat is released into the room or water is heated.

What is a boiler

A boiler (except for the electric model) is a type of heat exchange devices, where the heating element is fuel, and the heated one is the heat carrier.

For the fuel that the boiler uses for its work, it happens:

  • solid fuel (pellet, wood, coal);
  • liquid fuel (running on diesel or fuel oil);
  • gas;
  • electric;
  • combined.

Where is the boiler used?

The boiler is used in steam engine engines (for example, in turbines of power plants or engine systems of steam locomotives), in a factory for heating (for example, in textile or metallurgical), in agriculture for heating and producing hot water, for heating and water supply of residential buildings . The boiler is also used in public institutions, which are equipped with a central gas main and water supply. In addition, it is used where liquefied gas in special cylinders is used to power the heating system.

The scope of the boiler is not limited to the areas listed above. It is used in the industry for the processing of wood, the production of animal feed, in the food industry for the preparation and packaging of finished products, in a factory for the production of oil and its refining, in the manufacture of furniture.

Often, the boiler is used in poultry and livestock farms, in a medical factory for sterilizing clothes and packing medicines, in light industry for dyeing and processing fabrics, in a factory for the production of building materials, on building sites, for example, to heat bitumen or remove ice from fittings.

Important! In addition, the boiler is used in the fuel industry, for example, to unload fuel mixtures.

Why do I need a boiler

There are many boilers and everyone has their own purpose. Consider common species and their purpose. So, a steam boiler that runs on electricity is used to produce steam in the respective turbines. An industrial steam boiler is needed to meet technical production needs. Generating steam from steam generators, products are formed, buildings are heated, and more. A steam boiler with a recovery function is used to obtain steam for secondary energy and to use it in the production cycle. It applies the heat of the exhaust vapors of a gas turbine plant.

The boiler, which has two heat exchangers, primary and secondary, is used for heating and heating water. A double-circuit gas boiler performs the same function.

The scope of the boiler is the heating of small rooms where there is no central heating, etc.

What can be replaced

Today, there are many options for heating homes and getting warm water, even without using a boiler. In particular, these are devices that allow for efficient and high-quality heating of a house. Basically, they work on energy generated when fuel burns, turning into heat. Thanks to this, the room is qualitatively filled with heat.

Most often, the boiler is replaced:

  • steam system powered by main heating;
  • gas or electric system of an autonomous type;
  • stove heating, for which any fuel is used;
  • a fireplace;
  • autonomous heating system, working from the sun or wind;
  • air conditioning.

You can choose your own heating and combine it, starting with radiators and pipes, ending with a fireplace and a portable heater.

Consider each presented type of heating system used to replace the boiler.

  1. Stove or fireplace. Both devices heat the room and water by burning wood or coal. To organize such a heating system, you will have to make a stove or buy a ready-made communication and install it correctly. As a result, you can get economical and environmentally friendly equipment for heating, cooking and heating water. In this case, the stove can be made of brick or metal and immediately heat adjacent rooms.
  2. Air conditioning. Not many people realize that the air conditioner heats the air well in the cold season. At the same time, its installation will require a minimum amount of time, unlike the boiler. However, the minus of such equipment is the high cost of maintenance, as well as the heating of a small number of square meters of a room.
  3. Autonomous heating system with pipe and radiator systems connected to it. It can be obtained from the sun using devices called solar collectors. They are able to convert solar energy into heat for the home. It can also be obtained from wind power using a wind apparatus, consisting of a turntable with a generator and a battery device, or a wind station.

Important! These devices are suitable for efficient heating of a living room, which is located away from the gas line.

You can even get warm without using a central heating system, pipes with boilers and radiators. This can be achieved by maximizing the warming of the housing, changing the everyday wardrobe for the house and psychological heating.

The maximum insulation of housing includes the insulation of walls, adding warm floors to rooms, massive curtains to window openings, etc. Even with the functioning of the boiler, such nuances retain heat better and allow the system to be used economically.

The change of the usual wardrobe for the home includes the beginning of wearing knitted sweaters, the use of blankets while relaxing, the use of warming wraps with heating pads and warm drinks.

Psychological heating includes changing the design of the rooms, changing the general gamut of the color of the rooms to warm shades, adding knitted decor and wooden accessories to the room, using aroma candles and photos of warm places. So, you can fool yourself and make psychologically get the body warm.

In any case, you can find an option and a way to heat housing without a boiler. Such heating can warm even at subzero temperatures outside the window. Using the methods presented, you can heat your home, even in the most difficult situations.
